In a recent interview featured in The Globe and Mail, Roy Perlman, founder of Jean Machine, explained that he wanted to convert a room in his basement into a wine cellar. Needing the cellar to hold his collection of 600 South African imported wines, he turned to Papro Wine Cellars and Consulting to perform the task. “Mr. Perlman said he didn’t want his wine cellar to look and feel like a liquor store, so walnut wood shelving was used to give it some classic design flare,” says Steve Papadimitriou, Owner and President of Papro Wine Cellars and Consulting. “The floors are porcelain tile made to look like wood and the LED lighting is tucked into the shelving and along the ceiling. Two vintage pendent lights completed the ambiance to make the room feel warm and welcoming.”

The project took only six weeks to complete from start to finish. In the article, Perlman credits his wife with kickstarting the project, as he admits to sitting on the idea for years; his wife is actually the one who hired Papro Wine Cellars and Consulting. The wine cellar was installed fairly quickly, and the couple could not be happier. Perlman says it is now his favourite room in the house and credits the lighting for giving the cellar a glowing atmosphere.
